The Museum Network was launched in 2022 by BAYLAT together with experts from both regions.

It is a multidisciplinary innovation initiative that recognizes the role of museums as custodians of memory and identity—at the national, regional, and local levels—and therefore as natural facilitators of intercultural exchange.

The project promotes a critical, reflective, and inclusive engagement with diverse fields of knowledge and creates synergies among museum professionals and stakeholders from Bavaria and São Paulo.

Particularly in the context of the regional partnership between Bavaria and São Paulo, the Museum Network is of great significance and has therefore received initial funding from the Bavarian State Chancellery.

The State of São Paulo is home to around 500 public and private museums and is of particular interest to Bavaria because museums in São Paulo place a strong emphasis on direct participation by society, cultural participation for all, and greater civic engagement.

To strengthen collaboration and facilitate the exchange of expertise and ideas among the project partners, two delegation trips to São Paulo and Bavaria have already taken place, along with numerous accompanying events and meetings.
